The Turncoat 6

by AB Dawson

During the house impeachment trial many in Congress put their careers on the line. They voted to impeach the President of the United States. Regardless of what one might think, it had nothing to do with partisanship and everything to do with justice. Fair and impartial justice. Our whole justice system is based on this concept. That no one regardless of their place in the system is above the law … including the President of the United States.

It was during that time when David Shippers, the chief investigative council and the managers for the Judiciary Committee were at the Senate discussing the trial, when six republican Senators, told David Shippers and the managers that "there was no way we could win." As the story was told to Human Events magazine, these were Six Republican Senators from the leadership of the Senate!

It seems clear that some of the Senators do not have impartial justice in mind when they  made their decisions before the evidence was even presented. But to have Six Republican Senators from the leadership tell fellow lawmakers that they will not vote for conviction no matter if " … you have proof that he raped a woman, stood up and shot her dead, you’re still not going to get 67 votes." Then, when David Shippers asked those same Senators if they would ignore the oath just taken to do equal and impartial justice, that same Senator said, "You’re damn right they are."

Why would the Republican leadership sabotage a trial before it even started? There was more than enough evidence for conviction. According to David Shippers, there were at least 10 to 11 boxes the public never saw that contained "… very, very serious material." Why then was the trial doomed from the start? Of course there was the very real possibility that some Senators were being blackmailed. Part of the evidence that Shippers wanted to present was Filegate, regarding the 900 FBI files that were illegally in the possession of the White House. The Judiciary Committee had already established that there existed a pattern of obstruction and perjury. Would blackmail then be out of the question? Another possibility was that these Senators were bought out, bribed, …promised jobs, favors, or important positions with some cabinet post. Still another possibility, were threats of harm to family members or themselves.

Bottom line here is that our nation lost big. Our checks and balances did not work because enough men and women of principle did not hold office in the Senate. Each and every American must carefully chose their representatives based on character and morality and know if it comes down to doing what’s right for the country, they will always put country before self.

David Shippers refused to name any of the 6 Senators that confronted the House Judiciary Committee with news that they had rigged the trial. David Shippers did not know the Senator  to whom he was speaking so he would not name any of the other co-conspirators. This writer says, Expose the Turncoat 6 and remove them from office! These are unprincipled men who have no business holding this high office. Remember too, those Senators who voted for acquittal; for the turncoat 6 is surely among them.
